Your Privacy, Respected.

ditto was built by students, for students. We believe financial education shouldn't cost you your data. Here's exactly how we handle yours.

The short version

ditto doesn't sell your data. We don't track what you read. We don't build advertising profiles. We don't even require an account. The extension works entirely in your browser — your browsing stays yours.

What we collect

Nothing by default

We don't collect any personal information when you install or use ditto. No name, no email, no browsing history. The extension runs locally in your browser and processes everything on your device.

Anonymous usage stats (optional)

If you opt in, we collect basic, anonymized data to improve ditto — things like how many terms get highlighted per page and which glossary categories are most popular. This data has no personal identifiers attached. You can turn this off anytime in the extension settings.

Feedback you choose to share

If you submit feedback through our in-extension form, we'll receive whatever you type plus a timestamp. No personal data is attached unless you include it yourself.

What we never collect

  • Your browsing history or the URLs you visit
  • The content of any webpage you're reading
  • Your financial information, portfolio data, or account details
  • Cookies or tracking pixels from third parties
  • Your IP address, device fingerprint, or location
  • Any data that could identify you personally

How ditto works under the hood

When you visit a webpage, ditto scans the visible text for financial terms using a local glossary stored in your browser. Definitions are looked up locally — no data is sent to our servers during normal use. The highlighting and tooltips happen entirely on your device. Think of it like a spell-checker that lives in your browser, except instead of catching typos, it catches jargon.

Third-party services

ditto does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. We don't integrate with Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any ad network. If we ever add third-party services in the future, we'll update this page and notify users before any changes take effect.

Where your data lives

All glossary data and user preferences are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's built-in storage API. We don't maintain external databases of user activity. If you uninstall ditto, all locally stored data is automatically removed by your browser.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change how we handle data, we'll update this page with the date of the change and a clear summary of what's different. For significant changes, we'll also notify users through the extension itself. We'll never retroactively change how we handle data you've already shared with us.

Who we are

ditto is built by Liam, a college student who got tired of pretending to understand financial articles. This isn't a big tech company with shareholders demanding your data — it's a student project built to help other students learn. Your trust matters more to us than any metric.
